So. As I said not too long ago, it's only a matter of time before the thought police show up and start oppressing the right to free speech. That day came a lot sooner than I figure it would. In the wake of the manufactured controversy over Joe Wilson's outburst in Congress last week - the infamous "You Lie" statement - the House, with Nancy Pelosi leading the charge, has come up with some new rules in order to prevent someone else down the road from daring to speak the truth about the Obamassiah. Oh yeah, and they busted Joe Wilson for speaking his mind as well.



Isn't it great? Our elected representatives are no longer allowed to call the president what he is, they instead have to refer to him as either "disgrace to the country" or "half-baked nitwit handling foreign affairs" since nothing else on the approved list would fit. I wonder if the Dems have thought about that very clearly. I suspect not. And I really love how they've thrown president Clinton a bone as well.

It isn't going to be long now before these rules get extended to cover talk radio, right-wing TV commentary, and probably Fox News in general. My guess is Glenn Beck is going to have a field day with this one. If he hasn't already. Watch what you say folks, because the thought police cometh.

@The_Fury: Charles does have a point, Firefox & Opera both include spell-checker functions that are really easy to enable and do help make posts much more readable. (In fact, I think all the major browsers have some sort of spell checker either built-in or available for them these days, don't they?)

He does?, i thought that i did spell correct amateur, but in haste i must have missed it. Usually what i do is not notice that i selected the wrong word, the amount of times don't has become donuts is quite scary really.

As much as I'd like to discourage this stuff already, I have to admit that the above quote from ichat is pretty funny on the surface, but looks sadly indicative of how long IMC is likely to last without Samson around to maintain it. As someone who enjoys having IMC in his MUD for both staff and players to enjoy (the parts that are still enjoyable like the news channel and occasionally the game channel), I see this as a very disheartening development.

Just as an FYI, I haven't been doing anything maintenance wise on IMC in quite awhile. I forget exactly when, I'd have to go look up the thread, but I passed control to Kayle ages ago. He passed it back to me briefly, and I handed it over to Davion. The servers are mostly self-regulating. It doesn't take much to keep them online. But deleting one entirely? I can't see how that's an accident, and it's about the only way I can think of to cripple one beyond repair to the point where he doesn't even know how to rebuild it. If that's the level of competence the new world order has over there, the network is lucky to still be operating at all. You could call it a testament to how solid the code is or something.

My original comment about Opera having a spell check wasn't pointed at anyone, I was just trying to show my amazement, I've been using IE8 for a while now.

Oh, I don't know. Some mud admins might decide to run their services as root from time to time (especially the new ones who don't know better yet) or even from buried folders within accounts that are solely set up for running the mud (among the hyper security conscious) but, ultimately, as long as they learn not to run them as root, and otherwise practice reasonably good security, I'm not sure it really makes a whit of difference where they run them from. As for his new target, if it's really Sandi (and she's not just the victim of the day) then I do feel sorry for her. Either way, this is still off-topic here and we're probably all still tired of hearing about it.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if she is the new target. They were already laying into her heavily for having the guts to stand up to them for what they were doing to me before I got booted from the site. With me gone they haven't got anything better to do. Something I popped in to confirm while responding to another PM there from someone else who thinks I got shafted. Sandi has been getting the beatdown for simply suggesting a thread got revived by the mention of my name. Well guess what? That's precisely what happened. The thread got revived because someone mentioned my name and the jackals couldn't resist piling on while the opportunity was fresh. Then when Sandi rightly called them out on it, they accused her of trolling, and making personal attacks against them, and of only doing so because she *wait for it* disagrees with them. Stuff I saw as all too familiar. That's the kind of shit that needs to stop if the MUD community is going to survive. Sadly, as long as Cratylus and his ilk get away with never being punished for it, it'll continue.

So yeah. At this point I don't think any objective observer could go there and say I wasn't kicked off the admin team for any legit reason. I was kicked off because the other admins think my political and religious opinions are not fitting for a member of the community they want. They made that stance perfectly clear by firing me for bullshit reasons. It wasn't about any of what they claim. It was quite simply because they disagree with my world view and couldn't tolerate that I wanted to express it there. Which, ironically enough, is exactly what they kept using as the reasons for why their rules violations kept getting called out.

You anons can feel free to quote that to anyone who will listen. Yes, I'm still bitter about it all and I don't think anyone could blame me for remaining bitter about it all. This is the MUD community he's talking about Conner. They don't stand up for what's right, they stand up for people like Crat instead. You and I both know this firsthand. What they do over there isn't anything close to civil but that hasn't stopped them yet, and if the guy stands up for himself he'll just be ostracized the way we were. Anyone who stands with him will be treated the same way. It's entirely futile.

I understand this, but change has to start somewhere and if I posit that what he's doing is wrong maybe it'll at least spark a bit of civility, or at least humanity, in one member of the community.. *shrug* it's worth a shot.
