Guatemala Sinkhole
This sinkhole in the city of Guatemala happened way back around June 1st. Stories initially had it being caused by tropical storm Agatha. Later stores claim it happened because of a burst sewer pipe. Either way, you're in a real heap of trouble when a 30 story hole just opens out of nowhere in the middle of your capital.

Oddly, when this story first hit the net, it didn't generate anything more than website attention. I never saw any TV reports about it on the night it happened ( I looked ) and nobody on local radio ever discussed it. Pretty strange considering. Maybe they all thought it was a hoax at the time. It's certainly one for the ages.
