Typical
Well, someone finally did an accurate comparison of the two at least.

Hmm...someone who only knows about liberals from republican sources? Y'know, I'm a liberal, my whole family are liberals and lots of people I know are liberals and what that image above suggests could not be more wrong, in fact, I find it quite offensive.

Heh. This image has been here almost a year and this is the first time anyone has noticed it :P

The problem is of course, you're not familiar with the typical liberals found here in the US. The image is pretty much dead on about them here, especially in California. Although I think the image on the right should have said "your typical conservative" instead since "republican" isn't really the same thing.

Ok, well I'll settle with you as longs as you given the distinction that it's about American Liberals rather than Australian ones.

I'll concede to that it is a very clever image; I'm sure if I had the same political slant as you I'd find it very amusing.

Yes, you do need to keep in mind that most of my political posts and images will be relating to American politics. I don't really have any need to post this sort of thing from other countries.

Acutally, I thinking about that picture taken into the context of Australian politics (with Australian Conservatives on one side and Australian..erm...non-conservatives on the other) and I actually like it now. Sure, its an enormously unfair oversimplification, but still...

Nah, it's been noticed before this, just not commented on. ;)

I don't know how applicable it is to other countries, but in general, particularly here, it's not off by much. (Okay, I'll readily concede that it's clearly oversimplified and very stereotyping, but that doesn't detract from it's accuracy in general...;))

Hey i dont know about you guys, but thinking about our own discussions on some political matters, we all liberals, if one takes those characteristics as being liberal.

I disagree, Fury. I'll prove it based on myself for you: I'm not uneducated. I don't form all my positions based solely on opinions/lies. I don't believe that socialism works. (I do admit that some programs work which are facets of socialism, but pure socialism is purely a pipe dream.) I can understand lazy/stupid people, but I have no irrational pity/empathy for them. I am hard working and certainly believe myself to be quite rational. I try to always listen to the opinions of others and respond respectfully the vast majority of the time. I try hard not to ever belittle others nor resort to personal attacks, though I'm certainly not perfect and will admit that I can be pushed over the line from time to time as can anyone. Generally, I do prescribe to the philosophy of don't fix what isn't broken. Nope, if all we have to choose from are these two classifications and the listed criteria to make the determination, I'm clearly a republican. Ironically, I'm really much more of an independent conservative than an actual republican. Go figure. Either way, the result is that we clearly can't all be liberals here based on these criteria.

I certainly can't be classed as a liberal based on the criteria either, so where's that leave us now? :P

Well.

- I think it's pretty safe to say that I'm educated.
- You can ask my regular sparring partners about this, but I think it's safe to say that I base things on facts.
- Blunt though I may be, I do try to listen to the other side and give a fair hearing.
- One likes to think one is both rational and hard working, though you'd have to ask my bosses to be sure, I suppose.
- Given my positions on things, I suppose you could probably argue that I'm not really the "if it ain't broke" type, so maybe nix that one.
- Also I can rock a suit.

People generally call me a liberal though, so.

Which is kind of to say that that whole graphic is ten kinds of BS, which I may perhaps elaborate on at a time which isn't my work break. Or maybe not.

I could go on about Liberals in Australia being all hardworking small business owner, but then I'd be guilty of enormous oversimplification (like the above image) and be saying something that is quite offensive to a lot of people. Plus, Australia doesn't have such distinct ideological divisions as America so...
