Volcanic Lightning
Just when you think you've seen everything, something like this crops up in the news and your jaw just hits the floor. I don't think mere words can describe just how awesome this looks. I think we could do without the giant ash cloud that went with it though.

I'm not sure about it being apocalyptic, but it is a really cool shot that you'd expect to see in some SciFi setting rather than the real world. And, while I imagine someone must've used a serious telephoto lens to shoot it, I would agree that it seems like they'd need psychiatric help if they're crazy enough to seek out the active volcano for the photo opportunity... either that, or that plume is just THAT freakin' huge that they could take that cool picture from miles away..
