Abandon Quest

Very twisted humor, this is one of the milder ones, the rest are fucking hilarious. And damn the person who posted the link so I'd have to go look and get stuck keeping track of another web comic!

"Resistance is futile." -- The Borg
"Mother's coming for me in the dragon ships. I don't like these itchy clothes, but I have to wear them or it frightens the fish." -- Thurindil

Well. I guess that's that then.

Some very twisted cartoons in that collection....

The sad thing is, he was only posting that stuff to score free hosting with Zeno. And while it's his call on who he hosts, I have to say that after the few posts he had made, and then posting an unrelated article to mudding, I wouldn't have given him the hosting. But that's just me.

I'm not entirely sure that I agree with you about that being the sad part, but I definitely would agree that if I'd been the one accepting hosting clients based on a simple requirement of 5 "quality" posts I also wouldn't have considered the posts he'd made as up to snuff, but I'm not the one and apparently Zeno's definition of quality is different from mine or yours. *shrug*

I think his intention is to make more or less sure you more or less exist, and to scare off completely casual applicants. I think it's meant to serve as an extremely basic filter.

That must be it, though I do also know that he's said before part of the reason for the requirement is to help drive up "active" membership at MudBytes.

Yeah, I know why he posted it. I don't really endorse the activity but it's Zeno's choice in the end who he accepts. It's pretty obvious what people want when they come to the site, post 5 things, wait a week, and then vanish once they're approved. Its value as a basic filter is questionable.

If it were me I'd offer the free hosting and make it solely contingent on whether you're actually using it. If you go idle and don';t log on for 2 months straight, then I'd boot you, no questions asked. But it's him, not me, so it doesn't much matter :P

Ya, I wasn't trying to defend its value as a filter, was just saying. :-)

That said, I think that having even just that probably discourages some people. It's more steps to go through than just emailing Zeno "huh huh I can has hosting plz? kthxbai". :-)

*L* I can just picture getting an email like that and saying to myself, "god, what a moron, why would I possibly agree to host this person??"

I hear ya' Samson. Even as a means to attract new members to MudBytes I'd question it's real value, but, as you say, it's his offer and it does increase the total post count on MudBytes as well as the total member count one way or another, even if most of those additional posts (members?) are entirely useless additions. As for booting them for being idle 2 months, it sounds good to me, but in practice I've only hosted folks who were either friends or referrals from friends so far so I tend to be really lenient about it. *shrug*
