Facebook Strikes Again!

Beware Facebook!

Well. I guess that's that then.

That generic filler text looks awfully familiar...

I wonder where I've seen it before?

Lol.

There's unfortunately a lot of truth in that in terms of how Facebook works. The system is almost viral now in how it tries to spread.

Which makes me laugh at a guy I know who thought that his Facebook account couldn't get infected with a virus because he was using a Mac. He subsequently got his count infected, and whatever it was that got into his account changed his password and email address effectively barring him out for good and using his account as a spambot. Sucker.

@Thomas; yeah I'm getting an odd sense of Deja vu about it too...I wonder why?

I've been asked somewhat recently (by the same guy who asked about Twitter actually) if I'd be willing to put one of those "like this" buttons in.

Does this mean I'm totally out of touch for having no desire to get a Facebook or Twitter account just so I can test stuff like that?

One thing has little to do with the other. You "could" put a "like this" button in without having an account yourself, the most it would do is bring a few more readers to your page. The question is "why?".
Also, getting an account somewhere just to test the latest trend thingy is an awful waste of time and energy. Now back to making mods. *cracks whip*

Well there. A Facebook "like" button doesn't appear to be that hard. Provided the code they offered works. Anyone with a Facebook account care to try it and see? :P

works fine.

Yeah, it works fine.

The Fury don't do social networking.

Pft. I don't touch Evil sites like Facebook!!! Shame on you Samson! Pleasingly, I see no Facebook button or icon or whatnot, guess AdBlock is doing its thing.

It's there, on the line that says "Posted on May 15, 2011 4:22 pm by Samson" underneath the article.

I don't have a Facebook account either, so the button doesn't really do me a whole lot of good. It's not meant for me though :P Adblock doesn't block it either since I can still see it and I use that too.

I don't have a Facebook account either

I just did a face book and it would seem you have a lot of facebook accounts. :)

Damn you Fury, you BLEW MY COVER!

ROFL.

See, I'm so out of it, I didn't even get the joke right away. Sure it was worth a chuckle, but I didn't notice the "So-and-so likes child slavery".
But yeah, My Space/Facebook = fads gone wrong. In 50 years when people pull up old photos and stupid comments you made, then see how "fun" it is.

On another note, I just saw a news stream that it's law (somewhere? Maybe up here in Canada?) that you can't get fired because of comments on Facebook that you don't like your job. Uh... let the flaming of employment commence.

I don't know about getting fired or not (in Canada). I thought there was a case of someone who did - not sure. I do know that potential employers look at your facebook pages and if they don't like what they see there - you're screwed. About the only thing I like about what Canada did to facebook is force them to change their privacy settings and provide a way to cancel your account. The Canadian government stepped in said if you want that crap up here, change it to match our privacy laws. And since Canadians are apparently a bunch of facebook lunatics, they did. Canada has the highest per capita percentage of facebook users... Yeah, even I have an account. It only gets used once a year when we get invited to a friend's Christmas party.

Yea, their was someone that got fired for posting something to facebook about 3-4 years back, I don't remember the details right off. The fact that it was news, by definition, means its not something that happens everyday. Just like anything else, don't be posting stuff on facebook you wouldn't be saying in a public place in RL. Plus, if you do have something to say about, your boss for example, you *can* set it so only people you select can see it.
