Green Lantern

Hal Jordan is a test pilot, perhaps one of the best ever. Out to prove himself yet again in a test against some automated drones, he makes waves with the company he works for and nearly costs them a lucrative contract with the government. While out drinking later, and brawling in the parking lot, Hal is suddenly swept away by a glowing green field. Little does he know that the encounter to come will mean everything for the survival of the Earth.

Joining the ranks of the super hero fest, DC brings us the Green Lantern. one of the more interesting comic heroes of the day, Green Lanterns have the ability to create things and manipulate their environment though the sheer force of will, as amplified by their rings. Followers of the series and newcomers alike should find something interesting. Whether you're in it to see the origins of one of your favorites or just along for the sci-fi ride. As Hal soon finds out, mastering his new found powers is no easy task, and although his new identity is supposed to be a secret he can't seem to help telling people about it.

The story is well thought out and engaging. There were no plot hole or strange inconsistencies, although I cannot say how faithfully it follows the original comic book lines. Character development at the beginning is a tad slow, but the build up to it that comes before is well worth it and critically important. Special effects were well done, not overly flashy, and fit the scenes well when used. Everything remained grounded with the laws of physics as well, which is somewhat refreshing given how many super heroes have the ability to violate them at every turn. Well, except for the I have no suit on space scenes, but hey.

Over all, worth the trip. And hey, look at this, 3 movies on the front page :P

On the Horizon

Next up on July 1 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

July 15, Harry Potter. Then after that, who knows. Haven't decided if I want to see Captain America or not yet, but probably. Still waffling on Cowboys and Aliens, and Apollo 18 isn't until late August.
"It is pointless to resist, my son." -- Darth Vader
"Resistance is futile." -- The Borg
"Mother's coming for me in the dragon ships. I don't like these itchy clothes, but I have to wear them or it frightens the fish." -- Thurindil

Well. I guess that's that then.
