Gross Polluters

The hypocrisy of the world shines brightly. Or, at least it would if the Chinese would stop filling the atmosphere with all this junk. As the world cries and complains about how the USA isn't on board with Kyoto and isn't doing its part to curb pollution and its supposed link to global warming, they are at the same time ignoring the biggest problem: China. Just look at this picture. Have you ever seen something more disgusting in your life?

It should be plainly obvious that China is being allowed to get away with murder while the rest of the developed world is expected to cripple their own economies while China and India rampage around the globe spewing toxic shit into the air and making their citizens breathe it. Someone please tell me how this is supposed to be anywhere close to fair or responsible? Someone please tell me how such a reckless government is being allowed to host the Olympic Games under conditions like this? And maybe while you're at it you can come up with a clever justification for why the US, Canada, Europe, and other not backward places should be expected to sacrifice what we've built to allow this sort of ridiculous crap to continue unchallenged.

If this is supposed to be a global world in which we all play a part, China is abdicating their responsibility to the rest of us. Not the other way around. We're not abdicating anything. Just look at Los Angeles. There was once a time when our skyline looked like Beijing. What did we do about it? We cleaned it up. Responsibly, effectively, and relatively fast. I remember the days of stage 3 smog alerts. We haven't had one of those in... I don't know... at least 10 years. We didn't go crying to the UN to make England cut back so we could continue on being reckless. China is economically strong enough to fix this if they want to. The fact is, they don't want to.

This should be a wakeup call to the world. If anyone is destroying the planet, it's China. Focus your efforts on making them stop and leave us the hell alone.

"Mother's coming for me in the dragon ships. I don't like these itchy clothes, but I have to wear them or it frightens the fish." -- Thurindil

Well. I guess that's that then.
