Maine Republican Caucuses

The wild ride continues as Mitt Romney has won the Maine Republican Caucuses. With everyone assuming that McCain is going to walk away with things, this serves as a reminder once again that it's not over until it's OVER.

The Democrats hold their Maine Caucuses on February 10.

With 68% of the precincts reporting:

Republicans
Mitt Romney: 52% +18 delegates [Winner takes all]
John McCain: 21%
Ron Paul: 19%
Mike Huckabee: 6%

It would seem even CNN who normally keeps very good track of these things has stopped caring after reaching 68% of the reporting precincts. They've also failed to update the delegate totals, but there's also some indication Maine does things weirdly anyway and none are at stake yet. Go figure.

Update: CNN is now showing the delegate totals for Maine - which is apparently a winner take all state. Romney lands another 18.

The way is now clear for the major contest which is essentially a mini-election: Super Tuesday. All indications are whoever comes out ahead on February 5 will lock up their nominations. Though, it obviously hasn't paid off so far to try and base anything on polls or predictions or anything. There's a pretty good chance that we could come out of it not knowing who has the nomination yet and the states who follow will actually get to decide something.

The following events are scheduled to take place on Super Tuesday:

Alabama primaries
Alaska caucuses
Arizona primaries
Arkansas primaries
California primaries
Colorado caucuses
Connecticut primaries
Delaware primaries
Georgia primaries
Idaho caucuses (Dems Only)
Illinois primaries
Kansas caucuses (Dems Only)
Massachusetts primaries
Minnesota primaries
Missouri primaries
Montana caucuses (Reps Only)
New Jersey primaries
New Mexico primary (Dems Only)
New York primaries
North Dakota caucuses
Oklahoma primaries
Tennessee primaries
Utah primaries
West Virginia convention

Well. I guess that's that then.

Wow, Tuesday's going to get ugly isn't it?

Ugly, mean, vicious, nasty, etc. You'll be seeing the worst of the worst as the media tries to forcibly choose our candidates for us. However, Fox News has already stated that it's not possible for any one candidate to lock up the nomination even if they win every last delegate that's up for grabs. And the chances of that are remote anyway. So this whole mess with all these states moving their primaries and caucuses up to attempt to have the decision made quickly has now backfired. Yay for We the People!
